After building a torch at the second (?) campfire, my FPS went to hell and was unplayable. Just the nature of web builds unfortunately. Seems like a cool game, so if anyone is interested in trying it out, I'd recommend the demo on the steam page instead.

I think this game should be inporved because it takes a long time to load and it keeps crashing when I waiting to be loaded.

I've noticed that some browser games including this one sometimes seem to stop loading completely. This game is pretty big, so it might take a little longer to load, but when the loading seems to freeze for a long time, refreshing the page has helped me in the past.

I might provide a desktop version to dowbload instead of this browser version in the future, since the browser version seems less stable.

Thanks for letting me know!

it keeps crashing at the campfire when you are going right when you get to the stegasaurus

Oh that doesn't sound good, I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'll look into seeing what might cause the crash. If you have any extra information about when and where the game crashes it could help to figure out what's wrong. If you don't mind sharing your pc's specs, that could also help a lot, thank you.

The browser version isn't as stable as the desktop version, so you if you want you could dowbload the demo from Steam and try it out: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3260600/Primal_Planet_Demo/

Thanks for letting me know!

Fun pixelated game. I managed to get to the quest of locating the village. I will probably come back and play this. I've been looking for new games to play that isn't all shooter based as most of my steam library is lol. Maybe another additional thing could be: different colours of the little dinosaur? or maybe different mini variations. Hoping this wouldn't be too hard to implement! Love the concept of the game though. Will follow along to see how it goes <3

Ah thanks so much for the kind words and I'm glad you like Primal Planet so far! I love shooter games too, FPS games like the Metro series and Half-Life are some of my faves, but metroidvanias like Primal Planet is defintely my kind of thing too, heh. I'm glad you got into it and thanks for the suggestions :)

Amazing game, can't wait for full release. :D

I love that the dinos can attack each other and that they go eat the corpses you didn't looted, it really make the world feel alive.

Oh that's so nice, I'm really trying to create a world that feels alive. Your words mean a lot and I'm so glad you like the fact that creatures interact with each other and the world. Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate it :)

Just got to the end of the demo. I love pretty much everything about this! Love how in-depth it is, love the campfire system, love the team dynamic, and I can't get enough of the dinosaurs. I experienced a few crashes, unfortunately, and I never found much of a difference between carrying the child or just letting her follow - I expected to find that she would have trouble jumping, swimming, or keeping up, (and also that carrying her would slow the main character down) but never faced an issue either way.

I'm so glad you like Primal Planet so far!

Sorry that the game crashed on you multiple times. I'll look into seeing what might cause these crashes.

Oh and yes, there isn't much of a difference between carrying your daughter or not. I did consider making it so that you have to manage your daughter in a similar way you described, but I decided to try to make your companions as little of a hindrance as possible instead. I kinda like the idea of having to manage your daughter, but it might cause all kinds of annoyances.

I'd download the demo, but I'm on a Macbook so the browser version is more convenient. Thankfully, I was able to pick up from my last campfire just fine after each crash.

Re: the daughter character, I did find the crafting and management aspects of the game to be interesting. I found myself able to hang back and let the Wife handle a lot of smaller challenges alone with her bow, which is great, but I'm curious what other mechanics you've played around with (like, did you ever consider having the family respawn at the last campfire after dying, rather than in the same spot? was that too onerous?)

I love the artwork you've done for this game!

Oh thank you so much :)

I love the consept of the game. Personally i like all pixel games. A couple of things that I would like you to add to the game, is to make a option to make the game run in fullscreen mode. And to add a key for all of the original buttons. I think that would be really helpfull to new players to play the game more efficiently.

- Nothing_00 >:)

I'm really glad you like Primal Planet so far :) You can make the game fullscreen from the settings menu if you want. Oh and I'm not sure what you mean with a button for all the original buttons, but you can reset the controls in the controls menu, which you can find from the settings menu. There you can also see what the buttons do. Not sure if that's what you meant though. Anyway, thanks for the kind words and suggestions!

This game is a really nice-looking, but I don't like the fact that the it tries to include its own built-in controller profiler. The one that's included doesn't allow you to attach moves like Jump and Attack to the D-pad. Profilers like JoyToKey are more flexible than this, so I can't help but wish that there was a way to disable the Control section altogether, and just let the keyboard defaults sit as they are.

Oh I'm glad you like the look of Primal Planet so far!

Yeah unfortunately you can't adjust controls for the d-pad and thumbstick movements on a gamepad. I'm doing my best to make it so that players can cusomize their own controls on both keyboard and gamepad, but for now the d-pad is reserved for movement only and can't be changed, sorry.

You mentioned that you wish that there was a way to disable the Control section altogether, and just let the keyboard defaults sit as they are. You can use the default keyboard control setup. If you've changed it from the default setup, you can always reset the controls in the controls menu and just use the default control setup, unless I'm misunderstanding you.

Thanks for sharing this issue!

Hey there. I did try resetting the controls, and I can say with certainty that resetting the Control section is not the same as disabling it. If I take a generic controller (iow, not an official Xbox or PlayStation one) the game will still impose its own generic control layout. I can also tell you what some of the impositions are. I found that movement was attached to some sort of "Stick 1". The Roll move was attached to Button 2. Bite was on 3. Local Map was on 5. Pause was on 7.

PC games don't need to understand what a controller is, in order to be controller-friendly. They only need controller code if they want the connectivity to be plug-and-play. Plug-and-play is a great concept for official Xbox and PS controllers, but I think generic plug-and-play is awful, because it extends too far. I can't take a generic controller, and create my own layout, through a profiler, like JoyToKey. That's why I wish I could disable the Control section.

This game is super fun! Currently stuck on trying to escape the village though

Oh I'm glad you're enjoying it! Why are you stuck? Is it a bug or is it just difficult?

(+1)

It's just difficult lol

i found the game to be visually dizzing and abrupt. i don't know if it was becaused it was lagging or because of the pixel perfect aesthetic. Probably the enormous amount of swinging/shake of the screen contributed to that as well. am i the only one who got this expirence?

(+1)

Oh it seems like the camera is acting very strangely for you, I'm sorry about that. Another person have reported this and their pc was simply way too old to run the game properly. If you have a low-end pc it could be that Primal Planet is just too much for it. It's a bit on the heavy side for a 2D game with a lot of things going on at once and the minimum system requirements are a bit higher than most games like this. I'm sorry about this. If you want, you could tell me your PC's specs just to be sure. I'll look into this issue to see what else could be causing this behaviour and to see if there might be a solution. Again, my apoloigies.

oh yes of course. its a laptop on the lower side, here are the specs:

4 cores 4 threads 2.0Ghz
radeon vega vfx graphics

8 gbs of ram (2666)

i played it on the web version (i don't think there is a downloadable one) so maybe that worsens performace.

suuper nice to play, so well made and the dino’s so cute. Noticed that I really don’t want to kill any other dinosaurs

Oh wow thank you, I'm really glad you enjoyed Primal Planet's demo :)

it is so beautiful but for some reason i cant atack:(

(1 edit)

Oh that's no good. You could try to fix it by going to "controls" from the "settings" menu and resetting them. Could you move normally otherwise? I'm so glad you like the look of Primal Planet, but I'm sorry the controls are acting weird. I'll look into it, but any more information you could give might be useful in tracking down the issue. Did you perhaps switch from keyboard to a gamepad at some point, or something similar?

awesome game, can't wait for full release because demo crashes after a while

Thank you! Oh no, it crashes after a while? That really shouldn't happen. Any information as to what was happening in the game when it crashed might be useful to track down the issue.

The browser version is not as stable as the desktop version, so you could try to download the demo from Steam. I might switch this itch version to a downloadable version instead too. If you do try out the desktop version and it still craches, please let me know, and thank you.

I'm not sure what causes this crash, but I'll look into it.

Beautiful graphics, very nice game! There can never be enough stone age computer games...

Ah thank you, I'm so glad you like Primal Planet :)

I'm so excited for Primal Planet to come out on GOG! :)

GOG is my favorite platform for classic and indie games, and I think Primal Planet would be a perfect fit.

I'm sure the GOG community would love it too!

So excited for this to come out, been watching it since I saw some gifs a long time ago!
Dying feels like quite a setback, wall jumping and rolljumping took a bit of getting used to

played until I found my family and then stopped

(+1)

Thanks for the kind words <3 I'm glad you're excited for Primal Planet! Oh and the wall-jumping and roll-jumping should feel a bit better now with the latest update :)

Made another video

Oh that's awesome, this is the first upload I've seen of people playing Primal Planet co-op! Was fun to watch, and I've noticed a few improvements I need to make :) Thanks for sharing!

FROZEN AGAIN ALMOST BEAT THE DEMO. MAYBE EVENTUALLY I CAN BEAT IT WITHOUT THE FROZEN GLITCHES

Hi there dyenamix, sorry to hear that the game froze on you again. Does this happen often? I'm not sure if you want to, but you could try the demo on Steam; the desktop version is a bit more performant than the browser version.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/3260600/Primal_Planet_Demo/

If you don't mind telling me, do you remember where the game froze? How often does it happen? Does the game run smoothly otherwise? And if you don't mind giving me your computer's specs I'd appreciate that too. I've had a few reports of the game freezing, and it seems to be related to the browser version, but I'm not sure. It will also be useful to know if the Steam version freezes on you too. Any information could be helpful, thanks!

Again, my apologies.

Wow, so awesome to see you putting out a new project =D Briefly tested, so fluid and rejoying. I wasn't expecting anything less from you, after the Earth Taken serie ^.^

I wish you the best of luck for this new project, and will spread the word around!

Ah I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks so much for the kind words and support :)

You're really an artist! This is quality man, keep it up :)

Oh thanks for the kind words, it means a lot, I'll do my best!

looking good, could use a save feature :-)

(+1)

Thank you! Yeah unfortunately the demo doesn't have permanent save. That will come with the full game :)

Interacting with the environment adds a sense of realism and immersion. very very good game!

Oh thanks for the kind words, I'm glad you enjoyed the demo :)

(1 edit)

excellent game. browswer version froe after rescuing family and looking for village. wanted to finish but unfortunately it reset. bummer

cool

Nice :)

I just tried it, and I love it! I've already added it to my Steam wishlist. The pixel art is so clean, and I love the animations. It's very satisfying to see this kind of love put into pixel art. Details like the background with dinosaurs passing by while you play make the game feel so alive. Can't wait for the release! Cheers!

Oh wow thank you so much for the kind words and the wishlist! I'm glad you like the demo and the look of Primal Planet so far :)

(-1)

looks great and ive wishlisted it on steam but it causes my laptop to overheat and freeze up - think it needs some optimization !

keybindings are perfect for me btw

Oh thanks for the kind words, the wishlist and the feedback <3

This browser version is slightly less performant. The desktop version is available on Steam and might run better for you if you feel like trying it out :)

I'm sorry to hear the game isn't performing too well on your laptop. I've been optimizing the game like crazy before releasing the demo and it's running much better than before. I'm still trying to figure out ways to make it perform better still. If you don't mind, could you give me your laptop's specs?

Processor    Intel(R) Pentium(R) Gold 7505 @ 2.00GHz   2.00 GHz

Installed RAM    4.00 GB (3.68 GB usable)

System type    64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and touch    No pen or touch input is available for this display

Thank you. Unfortunately the game doesn't run well on a computer with less than 8GB RAM. My goal is to run the game smoothly with 4GB RAM, but I'm struggling to get there. My apologies. I'm working on it.

(+1)

no worries , thanks for the reply !

Looks really cool! I couldn't play it for long though without controller support (just controls the dino). Looking forward to trying this out properly with a controller 😁👍

(1 edit) (+1)

Oh, did you start the game with keyboard and then switch to a gamepad? The keyboard/controller that starts the game controls the main character, and then player 2 can join at any time with another gamepad.

If you start the game with the same controller you want to use during gameplay, then it should all be fine, but let me know if you still have problems with it :)

Oh, really 😲 I'm going to try that later. Thanks for the info!

Great work man! I think it is exactly what I was expecting. I think it will be a great game!

I have some first impressions for my first minutes playing only:

- Make Z to accept/confirm and X to cancel/back, the less buttons I use, the better. Why should I use Space and Esc also? (the same for the controller)

- Movement overall and some movement animations seems a little bit slow, making it a little kink to play (but it is just my first minutes). Controls seems responsive, but a little slow.

- don't know if grappling in the walls is very intuitive, I felt a little lost on how it works.

- Jumping and attacking seems weird, the characters just freeze in the air, let the movement flow.
- more on the controls, Z for attack and Space for jump doesn't feel right. Make it Z and X instead.

- tapping to attack with spear and holding to throw seems really fiddly, don't know if this will work on fast battles, maybe choosing which weapon to use and maintain one single button for attack could be better.
- finding ready made spears anywere looks weird for game with some realistic intents.

Well, I stopped when it was needed fire to procceed. Couldn't find flint or any way to make torches. For a starting part it doesn't seem intuitive on where to go or what to do from here since all the rest were very straight forward (so I can't say anything about level design too). My gameplay ends here.

Overall, looks a really, really great work!!! You rock, man!!! Truly rock!!!

Thanks so much for all the feedback, I really appreicate it and I'm glad you enjoyed the demo!

Really very good! Professional game.

I'm glad you like it, thank you! :)

Perfect pixel art and details, added to the wishlist.

Oh thanks for the kind words and the wishlist, I really appreicate it :)
